IS THIS FOR REAL? IS IT FAIR?
Trying to sell the property through traditional methods in this economy is hard to do, Contest for Change is another way to transfer the house to someone who might not be able to get a loan. Every story will be treated equally with the anonymous tracking number system. The judges will remain anonymous and during judging no information will be available to identify the contestant. Flow charts, check and balances will be in force to protect the integrity of the contest. The Contest is for real! It is registered with the state of California under GUTOSE INC.


IS IT LEGAL?
Yes, each state has their own laws and regulations that outline what must be done in order to conduct a legal contest. However, this is a game of writing skills and has followed all legal regulations so as to be in accord with California State Law.


HOW MANY ENTRIES WILL BE SOLD?
The number of entries sold is different per contest.


WHAT ARE THE TAXES ON THE WINNER?
There are NO income taxes for you to pay on the income gained upon winning a property. We are withholding the maximum Federal and State income tax required for each state that a contest is to be held in. However, if you do not want the property then we will purchase the property back from you for 10% of the contest home value (not total amount of entries) with no strings attached. You will then need to consult with your cpa or tax advisor on paying your income tax from the sale.


WHAT IF I LIVE OUT OF STATE?
I don’t want to move... Here are a few suggestions...
a. You can keep it as an investment property. It’s free and clear so think of all the equity you will have!
b. Rent or lease the property. Remember it’s FREE and CLEAR that means pure monthly profits.
c. Live in it!
d. Sell it back to us for 10% of the contest home value (not total amount of entries).
Note: You will need to consult a tax attorney for all income on winnings and capital gains.


HOW WILL THE PROPERTY BE TRANSFERRED?
The property will be transferred via warranty deed with title insurance included at no cost to the winner at a local title company.


HOW DO I ENTER?
You can enter online. It is recommended you do so early as not to miss out on the amount of entries that will be accepted. WHY TELL A FRIEND?
Whenever I tell people to tell all their friends about the contest, their first response is to keep it to themselves but unless you are planning on entering multiple times, it is imperative to reach the target entry number so there will in fact be a winner. Besides, if a friend wins, it will give you a place to go whenever you are in their city, town or country.

HOW IS A WINNER SELECTED?
There will be (3) independent judges evaluating the contest on who will benefit the most and writing skills. The names of the judges will be kept anonymous. No judges are related in any way to the owner of the home. This is a Contest of “skill”, there are no "odds" of a particular entry being chosen by the judges. Once the required number of entries are received, they will be divided equally between the (3) judges. After that, each judge will pick one wining story, and then there will be a voting between (3) judges to decide which story is the winner. The Judges will not know the identity of entrants when judging the Story's content. The decision of the judges is final.


WHAT HAPPENS IF THE NUMBER OF ENTRIES FALLS SHORT?
If fewer than the numbers of tickets required are sold by 5pm on the date of the contest closing, the Contest Winner and the participating homeowner will both be compensated. This is covered in detailed on the Official Rules page.


DO I HAVE BE PRESENT TO WIN?
No, you do not have to be present to win. We will notify the winner within 24 hours when the winner is determined.
